Coventry Carol - Single

by Todd Parker and The Witches

/
1.
Lullay, lullay My little tiny child By-by, lullay, lullay Lullay, lullay My little tiny child By-by, lullay, lullay Oh, sisters two How may we do For to preserve this day? This poor youngling Of whom we do sing By-by, lullay, lullay Herod the King In his raging Charged he hath this day His men of might In his own sight All children young to slay Then woe is me Poor child for thee And ever mourn and say For thy parting Nor say nor sing By-by, lullay, lullay

about

The Coventry Carol is not a Christmas carol at all. It is a part of the Feast of the Holy Innocents, celebrated December 28th, commemorating the story of the massacre of the young children of Bethlehem ordered by King Herod in an attempt to eliminate the Messiah. The song is a lament, women singing a last lullaby for their murdered children.

Noa, my daughter, who was 9 when she contributed backing vocals to God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, takes the main vocals here at age 17.

We dedicate this rendition to the victims of gun violence.
